- Description: Why I think Justin Jefferson is starting his last season with the Minnesota Vikings.

When a conversation about Justin Jefferson occurs it usually revolves around something like, best wide receiver, craziest catch ever, or yet another broken record. Though all these stand true, and he is indeed the best wide receiver in the league, this conversation will have a different angle.

Brace yourselves.

Justin Jefferson is playing his last season with the Minnesota Vikings.

I know I know, how original.

The marriage of Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings is going on seven years, and I’m willing to bet someone’s getting the itch. Jefferson’s personal accolades have been some of the best in the history of the game, but a wide receiver willing a team to a Lombardi would take a miracle.

Since coming into the league in 2020 Jefferson has been on a different level:

- 2020, 88r 1400y 7td
- 2021, 108r 1616y 10td
- 2022, 128r 1809y 8td
- 2023, 68r 1074y 5td
- 2024, 103r 1533y 10td
- 2025, 84r 1048y 2td

Season after season he’s been consistent, so what’s the problem?

The quarterback play.

Going into his seventh season JJ has played with ten different QBs, half of them are so bad they aren’t even on a roster. Jaren Hall or Kellen Mond anyone? The quarterback situation has been a roller coaster and at some point he’s gonna want off this ride.

Even good patience wears thin.

If there was a word for the opposite of *Diva WR*, Justin Jefferson is that word. Seven years of professional level media coverage and he’s never said anything worse than “yeah it’s frustrating.” Frustration is stubbing your toe, you know what would piss a guy off? Being stuck on a team that has Super Bowl aspirations but can’t win a playoff game.

Then there’s Sam.

Hindsight letting Sam Darnold walk was a mistake, and overall it was. There’s been some good from it though. You can only hope the organization learned from a mistake like that. They took the first step by firing Kwesi Adofo-Mensah back in January, now all they have to do is not let another Super Bowl *capable* quarterback leave the building and we should be fine. Sam and the successful season likely extended our time with Jefferson, and we’re thankful for that.

Going into the 2026 season Kyler Murray holds the fate of Justin Jefferson in purple.

Before the season starts we often take a look around the league at some of the coaches and ask “who’s on the hot seat?” For the Vikings it’s not the coach we have to worry about, it’s the organization in general, and the proverbial hot seat will be losing the identity of the team.

Scenario A)

Kyler has a resurgence. This doesn’t take a lot of explaining, Kyler can quite literally have an above average season and (due to recent events) the Vikings wont let him leave. Which will totally blow up in their faces but we’ll save that for next off-season. Nevertheless it’ll keep Jettas satisfied.

Scenario B)

Kyler doesn’t pan out. Whether it’s due to injury or he’s just ass, let’s say the Kyler Murray experiment doesn’t work. What does that look like? Ask Justin Jefferson to spend his 8th NFL season helping develop another rookie QB? Not a chance.

My money’s on the latter.

Above are the facts, below is my prediction, proceed with caution.

The Vikings start the season rough, and unfortunately Kyler sustains an injury that keeps him off the field for multiple weeks. All of a sudden we’re staring down the barrel of a Carson Wentz led team thats 1-5.

As we approach the trade deadline you’re hoping the noise doesn’t get too loud, but it does. Next thing you know you get a notification that makes your stomach drop. Justin Jefferson has requested a trade.

Jersey swaps. Every. Single. Post.

There are dozens of trade suitors but one clear answer, the Buffalo Bills. The NFL script writers showed us just enough of their hand when the schedule released in May.

The Vikings and Bills have the *Monday Night Football* slot on November 9th, the trade deadline? The day after. Did the league give the Vikings a heavy hitting primetime game because of a suspected Kyler Murray resurgence, or a Justin Jefferson post-trade must-watch homecoming beat down.

I hope I’m wrong, but I’m done pretending I don’t feel it, and I know you do too.
